Physical signage works best when its visual character and practical setting are considered together. This guide helps connect the brand, the viewer and the installation questions before assuming a finished solution.

Start with a useful question

For physical signage or a branded installation, describe the setting, intended message and approximate scale. Material preferences are useful context, but the location and installation constraints matter too. A first enquiry can begin with a brief rather than a complete production package.

Contact BrandSignWorks with the setting, the viewer’s task and the design decision you want to explore. The European Commission’s data-protection principles explain data minimisation as useful background for an initial enquiry. Describe the installation need without sending private access details; artwork, site information and their handling can be discussed separately.

A signage brief can begin with the place and the viewer’s task. In an explicitly hypothetical reception project, you might want the identity to be recognised from the entrance while a directional element explains the next step. Describe those roles, the approximate scale and any known placement constraints. Mention whether genuine vector identity artwork is available, without assuming that a reference image is production-ready. This helps the design discussion begin with the intended experience and the decisions still needing review.

What to include in your first message

Name the topic, explain the intended result and describe the broad scope. Include any important constraints you already know. If you are referring to one of our pages, include its title so the question has a clear starting point. Approximate information is enough to begin; unresolved decisions can be identified during the discussion.

If your enquiry concerns several elements, describe their different roles. A main identity feature and a directional sign may belong to one environment while needing different information and approval decisions.

The subject line can identify architectural signage, a branded installation or material planning. In the opening, explain the viewer’s task and the setting rather than listing finishes alone. If dimensions or locations are preliminary, label them clearly. Describe which design decision you want to explore first. You can review the message before sending so the enquiry communicates the intended experience and remaining questions without treating a visual reference as a final production instruction.

  • The subject or service you are asking about.
  • The intended outcome and broad scope.
  • Important constraints or public context.

Keep the first enquiry simple

Do not send passwords, access tokens, account credentials or confidential records in an initial email. If the work later requires documents or access, the relevant scope and handling arrangement must be agreed first. This page is a starting point for a conversation, not approval to transfer private material or a promise that a project has been accepted.

For materials or installation planning, identify which information is preliminary. A finish preference, an estimated dimension and a confirmed mounting condition are different kinds of input. State what is known and what requires assessment. If access or site permissions affect the work, describe the issue rather than providing private access details. The enquiry can then establish an appropriate next discussion about artwork, samples and responsibilities. Sending a concept does not approve production, confirm fixing suitability or establish a warranty or certification for the proposed installation.

Choose a topic before you write

The related pages explain the questions that help shape a useful brief. Read the relevant guide if you want to clarify the scope, then describe what remains unresolved. There is no need to force your enquiry into a package that does not fit the actual question.
